Camryn Mini Senior Session | Whitley County, Indiana Senior Photographer | Photography by Meg Miller

Camryn and her mom met me on a gorgeous spring (can I call it spring yet?) night at one of my favorite spots in Whitley county. This spot is home to beautiful things that remind me of Indiana: wide open fields, stunning sunsets, and amazing horses (which you may recognize if you've visited Barefoot and Bluegrass).

This spot was perfect for Camryn's mini senior session!  We soaked up the sun and warm(er) temperatures as we discussed Camryn's future at Alabama in the fall!  So very excited for this amazing young woman. Cannot wait to see what is in store for her!

Fine Art School Portraits | A Classic, Modern Approach to School Photography | Fort Wayne, Indiana

This school was such a treat!  As I sit here reflecting on my time with these students, I cannot help but smile. They were each so full of personality and it was a joy to capture their smiles, smirks, and grins.

I always enjoy my time photographing children-whether that be in a family session or through Fine Art School Portraits. I am so very excited to be a part of creating school portraits that will  serve as a marker in time, but also capture children's beauty in an authentic, classic way. To hear parents say that I was able to capture their son's true smile or their daughter's best dimple makes me heart sing.

I hope that you enjoy these sweet faces. Thank you so very much for sharing your students with me!

Erb Family Session | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, Indiana Family Photographer

Alright I have a confession: Fort Wayne was not my first choice of places to move to. I know. I know. This is mostly due to the cold weather-I'm a total lightweight when it comes to cold.

BUT here's the thing that I've learned: It really comes down to the people. The people... your friends, school, coworkers, church.... that's what makes a home. It is really people like these four that can make a good place even better. My family feels beyond blessed to have the Erbs in our lives!

And our (very chilly) session was a blast! I loved watching them together and ESPECIALLY these two kiddos.  No doubt that they have a very special bound.

Thank you Erb family, for trusting me with your adorable family's memories!  And thank you, Erin for continuing to sharing your amazing talents with me!!! If you haven't used Erin's wonderful company Fleurish yet, I cannot recommend her enough!

Lifestyle Newborn Session | Hagee Family | Fort Wayne, Indiana Newborn Photographer | Photography by Meg Miller

I may be slightly baised, but December babies are extra special. There really is not much better than filling those long, cold, winter days with beautiful newborn moments. It was such a treat to be welcomed into the Hagee's home. Our session was filled with all those adorable newborn things that we mothers of bigger kids have long forgotten..... the adorable grunts, the cutest little lip movements, the way they gaze up at their parents, oh and no one can forget how simply delicious they smell!  Gah!  Henry was the perfect baby during our time together and we definelety soaked up all of those wonderful newborn moments.

Congratulations Hagee family!  Henry is a true blessing!

The Borne and Torres Sessions | Fort Wayne, Indiana Family Photography| Photography by Meg Miller

I feel the need to apologize. I haven't quite figured out how to manage busy season and blogging friends... or busy season and laundry, but anyway....so it has definitely been way too long!

These people are near and dear to my heart. They're the family you call when you need anything from a listening ear, a distracting laugh, someone to watch your babies (human or fur)... I mean really and truly they are the best.

And you know I love working with families at locations that are meaningful to them. So when Lindsey talked about having their family pictures at the barn, I was all in!  It is obvious that this crew feels pretty at home in this beautiful setting surrounded by family and fur babies that love them!  And isn't there just something extra special about the bond between people and animals?!?!?

Session tips | Makeup and your Session | Guest Post from Alicia Purdy | Photography by Meg Miller

You are the star!

Whether you are the star of the show or capturing treasured moments with your family, you want to make sure that radiant glow of yours shines through the cameral lens. I'll share my top tips for your photoshoot, whatever that may be.

Prep

Great skin is the foundation of any look. The night before your photoshoot, exfoliate with either a gently abrasive scrub and apply your favorite moisturizer generously. This will leave your skin looking plump and refreshed. On the day of your event, only apply moisturizer if your skin is dry to very dry. If your skin is a bit more oily, skip to the next step.

Prime

Be sure to begin with a primer to create a smooth starting point for the rest of your look. Primer fills in lines, wrinkles, and pores. It's one of the products most overlooked in a beauty routine. I always say, "Would you paint a red room white without priming?" Would you?

All about the Base

Choose a foundation that’s right for your skin type and made to be photographed. It’s best to avoid any varieties with built-in sunscreen, as they don’t play nice with flash photography.

Set Your Foundation by setting with a light powder. Choose one with a translucent finish.

Contour

Some lighting can wash away a lot of the structural definition from your face, so a little bit of shading with bronzer or contouring powder will help keep you looking well-defined and less like a moon in the night sky. It’s really important that you use something with a matte finish, since matte recedes and will add depth. Using a medium-sized brush (such as an Angled Contour Brush) dust under your cheekbones, down the sides of your nose, along your along your temples, and under the jawline.

Highlight

Once you’ve finished contouring, add some lightness by applying a highlighting cream on the top of your cheekbones, tip of your nose, under the arch of your brow,  and onto your cupid’s bow.

Irridescent Shade for fair

Golden shade for light to medium

Rose Gold for medium to dark

Blushing Beauty

The final touch for your skin is a flush of color on the cheeks. Apply it just on the apples of your cheeks so that it looks like a healthy glow and not like, well, blush on camera. For the most natural look, try to find the color that you would flush naturally.

The Eyes Have It

Create Soft, Smoky Eyes Instead of defaulting to the ubiquitous black smoky eye, opt for softer tones like brown, grey, or eggplant, which are less harsh.

Lashes

Open up those eyes with a voluminizing and lengthening mascara. It will add the perfect WOW factor!

Play Up That Pout

Choose a matching lipstick shade and Lip liner. Line outline of lips for precise definition. Apply lipstick. Add a touch of gloss for a hint of shine. Avoid frosted lip colors. They tend to not photograph as well.

I hope you have found these tips helpful in preparing for your big photoshoot.

Vickery Family Shoot | Fort Wayne, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

The Vickery family was such a blast to connect with for so many reasons!  These 5 are so very kind and their love for each other is wonderful to watch. Samuel has so much fun in store for him with his two great big sisters!

We also realized that we BOTH had a connection with Faith Church in Indianapolis!  Faith Church serves so many on the north side of Indianapolis. While I was there, it also housed La Escuelita.... an amazing preschool that served second language learners in Washington Township. I had the privilege of teaching and connecting with families at both Faith and the Washington Township community for several years- a true blessing.... anyway... back to the lovely Vickery family.... I cannot say enough about this group.

They are the real deal and a true honor to be around.

Henry Family Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

You wanna know what makes me do a little happy dance at a shoot?

You might say when a family shows up with great outfits-yes, of course that's amazing!!!!

Happy, well fed kids? Sure, yep...always appreciate that.

Relaxed parents? Yes! That is honestly such an amazing treat.

But, the number one thing that I love is to have families that come to shoots truly happy to be with each other. It may sound silly, but families who really and truly are excited to be together are the best. Even if getting everyone (including mom) made them all sweat (is this just our family). And even if there was child (or dad) bribery to get everyone to our time together.... I'm telling you the families that really enjoy each other.... well you can tell... and really does show in pictures.

Well, the Henry's are one such family. They are beyond fun to work with! They get one another, appreciate one another, and all of the silly things that make them unique. Arden-your infectious giggle still has me smiling! Finn you are such a sweetheart and little ham-Annie, we need to get this kid a camera! So fun to watch him take shots at the end.

Thank you, Henry family! It was truly my pleasure to spend time with all of you!
