Watching families grow is truly amazing. Seeing their relationships grown even stronger. Getting to see toddlers grow into independent young children. Observing parents' pride as they look at their children. All of these things took place in my time with the lovely Lindzy family.

Lindzy family, thank you for letting me watch your sweet family grow again and again!  It is such an honor!

Sackett Family Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

indiana-photographer-photography-by-meg-miller-5-of-76.jpg

One of many things I love about this photography journey is meeting new families!  I was introduced to the Sackett family after they won on a session with me through the Brains for Hope silent auction. If you haven't read about Brains for Hope, take a minute and read their amazing story!

When I sat down to read through Keri's questionaire responses, I was overwhelmed by her love for her family. It is obvious that she views each member of her family as a pure blessing!  And after I spent more time with her sweet kiddos and husband, it was very also obvious that they feel the exact same way about her! Can't wait to share a sneak at our gorgeous night!

Laipple Extended Family Session | Roanoke, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

We all know 'that' teacher. The one who connects with each child. The one who keeps in contact with each student. The cheerleader. The coach. The hugger. The educator that encourages our families-not just our children who are in their room!  The epitome of the experience that you want for your children...and really people in general.

Well, two of my children have been VERY blessed to have that exact experience with one such teacher! They've started their school years with the very best. So when I had the chance to meet our favorite kindergarten teacher with her family in a place that it extra special to them, I have to say I was beyond excited-and of course nervous!

All nerves went away when I was greeted with a familiar hug and warm smiles!  We all know the expression, 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.'  Well this family is a perfect example! Their genuine interactions and love of family was so refreshing to absorb!  These sweet people truly love and respect one another exactly as they are!

Laipple family, thank you for sharing your lovely home and beautiful family with me!  You continue to bless our family in so many ways!

The Miner Extended Family Session

I absolutely love seeing families year after year. It is so fun catching up on their lives and watching their children grow and explore new things. Having families trust me once is a joy and a year after year is a true privilege. For this session with the Miners we were able to include both sets of grandparents!  If you ever want to see pure love, just watch grandparents with their grandchildren. It is the most beautiful thing to watch and be a part of!

Can't wait for you to catch a glimpse at their joyful and loving family!

The Eddy Children's Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

Confession time. I love people watching. I always have. I can remember being very young, sitting on a park bench in Disney World and having the best time simply people watching.

Am I the only one?

Not the creepy, stalker type of people watching.

The observant, thoughtful kind of people watching. Watching families interact. Watching the dynamic between couples. Wondering where they're from....what jobs they have.  what their names are.....and one of my favorites... watching siblings interact.

Cue the Eddy children. These three are pretty special. They truly love and respect each other. The 'bigs' could not be more protective, helpful and encouraging. And Cohen.... Cohen is the entertainment and he knows it.... from the curls, to the grins, the rolls, and of course the dinosaur roars. It is such a sweet and enduring dynamic to watch. Those Eddy parents are doing a ton right!  Hats off!

Thank you for continuing to trust me with your sweet family's memories. It is a true joy to watch your children grown as individuals and together as siblings. And happy, happy birthday Cohen!   PS-stop growing so darn fast;)

Happy Father's Day | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, Indiana

I wanted to take minute and say Happy Father's day to the dads that trust me to capture their beautiful families that they work so very hard for!

I've often heard that father's can be the most difficult client for photographers to work with. Honestly, I haven't had a father yet that I didn't find enjoyable. Most times, my dads are completely the opposite!  Happy, helpful, and playful. They know that this session means a ton to their wife and value her happiness AND documenting their family that they love so much!

So hats off dads! I may be biased, but I think y'all are the best! Thanks for all that you do for your family each day!

Langel Family Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana Family Photographer | Photography by Meg Miller

The Langel family made our night together so fun! Our Indiana weather cooperated and gave us cool temps and a stunning sunset. Our session for full of movement, giggles, and discussions about The Jungle Book.

Have I mentioned that Nicole did a wonderful job preparing for their session? Not only did she coordinate adorable outfits with weather appropriate options, but she also packed snacks, toys, and maybe a couple of bribes that worked perfectly!  That always make a session go even more smoothly.

I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed this session. The Langels are truly a beautiful family inside and out!

Headley Spring Mini Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana Children's Photographer

When you schedule spring mini sessions, you hope for a gorgeous day and amazing flowers would be a plus, but you sort of anticipate that won't all happen..... well.... I could not have hand picked a more stunning day!  It was warm and sunny (remember when it was warm and sunny? I think that's coming back?) with the most beautiful tulips! Combine all that with this adorable little sweetheart and I'd call that a success!

5 Tips for Capturing Authentic Smiles

One of the most frequent questions that I am asked is, “How do you always get kids to smile for pictures?”  The truth is, I don’t.  I mean, they smile for pictures, but if I’m being 100 % honest. There are plenty of times they won’t.  That being said, I do have a few tips and I thought I would share them with you!

1. Ask Questions Get them talking! I haven't met a child, tween, or teen that doesn't like to talk about himself. Ask them questions about their favorite food, activity, song...you name it!  But the most important part is listening. Really hear their answers and respond. You'll be shocked at what you learn;)

2. Laugh. Not them-YOU! If you want them to have fun then YOU have to have fun, too. People reflect the energy they see and kids are no different.

3. Dance to Some Music. Babies love it. Toddlers groove to it.  Teens are so annoyed by it.....but they all laugh. If you really want a giggle then YOU do the dancing! Nothing makes children laugh (and blush) more than watching their dad do the lawn mower in public.

4. Play. By now you know that I'm a sucker for movement. Get moving. Play a game! Movement almost always brings smiles and laughter. Try simon says, red light, green light, acting like an animal, hide and seek.... just get moving!

5. Compliments. Who doesn't like to hear how pretty they are or what an amazing smile they have?? Better yet-show them a photo that you just captured while giving them a compliment. Double win!

Hopefully this gave you a couple new ideas and tricks about capturing those beautiful smiles and amazing personalities. Do you have any additional tricks to getting authentic smiles from your kids? I would love to hear from you, comment below!

Harris Family Mini Session | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, IN

I have to brag on this momma for a bit. Allison is that friend. The friend you can always call when you need to vent. The friend who doesn't judge you when you arrive to school forgetting your shoes but laughs along with you (yes, that did happen). I could go on and on, but so very thankful for her and your friendship.  And really that last statement goes for all 4 in the Harris family.... all amazing people that we are blessed to have as friends.

PS-we had no fun at all during these photos... cough, cough, cough.

Kent Family | Fall Mini Session | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, Indiana

This mini was so special. We lived next to Jared and Sarah and spent so many fun evenings and afternoons together..... While we LOVE our new house and are so thankful to Jared for all of his hard work through our move, we can honestly say that those evenings and afternoons we spent together are still one of the things that we miss the most about our old house. BUT it was so fun to catch up with these 4 and watch them grow. These boys are simply adorable!  Always a joy to spend an afternoon with the Kents.
