Gardner Lifestyle Newborn Session | Studio Mini | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, Indiana

There are so many beauties of this 'job'...meeting new people that you've heard so very much about, feeling like you've known them for ages, getting to snuggle their ADORABLE newborn... can I write that one about 5 more times? Seriously though, meeting Brady and her boys was such a joy. Brady and I instantly enjoyed chatting about motherhood, Ft. Wayne connections (don't those always seem to happen?) and our love of little boys.

Brady congratulations!!! And thanks so very much for trusting me during this special time! You are a gorgeous momma inside and out and your boys are simply adorable.

Lifestyle Newborn Session | Hagee Family | Fort Wayne, Indiana Newborn Photographer | Photography by Meg Miller

I may be slightly baised, but December babies are extra special. There really is not much better than filling those long, cold, winter days with beautiful newborn moments. It was such a treat to be welcomed into the Hagee's home. Our session was filled with all those adorable newborn things that we mothers of bigger kids have long forgotten..... the adorable grunts, the cutest little lip movements, the way they gaze up at their parents, oh and no one can forget how simply delicious they smell!  Gah!  Henry was the perfect baby during our time together and we definelety soaked up all of those wonderful newborn moments.

Congratulations Hagee family!  Henry is a true blessing!

The Borne and Torres Sessions | Fort Wayne, Indiana Family Photography| Photography by Meg Miller

I feel the need to apologize. I haven't quite figured out how to manage busy season and blogging friends... or busy season and laundry, but anyway....so it has definitely been way too long!

These people are near and dear to my heart. They're the family you call when you need anything from a listening ear, a distracting laugh, someone to watch your babies (human or fur)... I mean really and truly they are the best.

And you know I love working with families at locations that are meaningful to them. So when Lindsey talked about having their family pictures at the barn, I was all in!  It is obvious that this crew feels pretty at home in this beautiful setting surrounded by family and fur babies that love them!  And isn't there just something extra special about the bond between people and animals?!?!?

I am blessed to be surrounded by some pretty amazing mommas. The kind of moms that love their kiddos fiercely, push them to be their best, and acknowledge their hard work and accomplishments. Dima is one such momma. Watching her kindness and loving nature makes me glad to be her friend AND reminds me to try to do the same with my own children. And the rest of her family??? Well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree with this crew! I couldn't have enjoyed our session more!

Thank you, Mourad family, for trusting me with your sweet memories!

Laipple Extended Family Session | Roanoke, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

We all know 'that' teacher. The one who connects with each child. The one who keeps in contact with each student. The cheerleader. The coach. The hugger. The educator that encourages our families-not just our children who are in their room!  The epitome of the experience that you want for your children...and really people in general.

Well, two of my children have been VERY blessed to have that exact experience with one such teacher! They've started their school years with the very best. So when I had the chance to meet our favorite kindergarten teacher with her family in a place that it extra special to them, I have to say I was beyond excited-and of course nervous!

All nerves went away when I was greeted with a familiar hug and warm smiles!  We all know the expression, 'the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.'  Well this family is a perfect example! Their genuine interactions and love of family was so refreshing to absorb!  These sweet people truly love and respect one another exactly as they are!

Laipple family, thank you for sharing your lovely home and beautiful family with me!  You continue to bless our family in so many ways!

The Miner Extended Family Session

I absolutely love seeing families year after year. It is so fun catching up on their lives and watching their children grow and explore new things. Having families trust me once is a joy and a year after year is a true privilege. For this session with the Miners we were able to include both sets of grandparents!  If you ever want to see pure love, just watch grandparents with their grandchildren. It is the most beautiful thing to watch and be a part of!

Can't wait for you to catch a glimpse at their joyful and loving family!

The Eddy Children's Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana | Photography by Meg Miller

Confession time. I love people watching. I always have. I can remember being very young, sitting on a park bench in Disney World and having the best time simply people watching.

Am I the only one?

Not the creepy, stalker type of people watching.

The observant, thoughtful kind of people watching. Watching families interact. Watching the dynamic between couples. Wondering where they're from....what jobs they have.  what their names are.....and one of my favorites... watching siblings interact.

Cue the Eddy children. These three are pretty special. They truly love and respect each other. The 'bigs' could not be more protective, helpful and encouraging. And Cohen.... Cohen is the entertainment and he knows it.... from the curls, to the grins, the rolls, and of course the dinosaur roars. It is such a sweet and enduring dynamic to watch. Those Eddy parents are doing a ton right!  Hats off!

Thank you for continuing to trust me with your sweet family's memories. It is a true joy to watch your children grown as individuals and together as siblings. And happy, happy birthday Cohen!   PS-stop growing so darn fast;)

Kellan 3 Year Old Milestone Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana Child Photographer | Photography by Meg Miller

Oh Kellan.... you had me at that first little smile you flashed my way. And those dimples!  Swoon. Your momma even warned me that they were adorable, but I wasn't prepared for THIS much cuteness!

We had such a fun evening soaking up the Spring weather, checking out spider webs, playing hide and seek, and of course popping some super bubbles. Pretty much a perfect evening, right?

I cannot forget to mention those momma cuddles. It is very obvious that this adorable little boy loves his momma fiercely!  And something tells me that the feeling is mutual!

Happy 3rd Birthday Kellan!  I had a blast celebrating with you!

Headley Spring Mini Session | Fort Wayne, Indiana Children's Photographer

When you schedule spring mini sessions, you hope for a gorgeous day and amazing flowers would be a plus, but you sort of anticipate that won't all happen..... well.... I could not have hand picked a more stunning day!  It was warm and sunny (remember when it was warm and sunny? I think that's coming back?) with the most beautiful tulips! Combine all that with this adorable little sweetheart and I'd call that a success!

I've pretty much always lived in a small(ish) town. Nothing too big. And one of my favorite things about small towns are the people, the connections, the community. Working with the Kady family was exactly what I love about small towns!  The connections were so very fun and hilarious. And if you don't have baby fever, I'm warning you..... you probably will after this sweet preview of their adorable session!  Thank you, Kady family!

Anthony is 1! | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, Indiana

I know it sounds cliche, but that year REALLY did fly by! It feels like just yesterday that sweet Anthony was just a tiny little newborn. He has been such a joy to watch and photograph over this past year.  A lot has definitely changed, but that infectious smile always remains constant. Happy Birthday sweet Anthony!

5 Tips for Capturing Authentic Smiles

One of the most frequent questions that I am asked is, “How do you always get kids to smile for pictures?”  The truth is, I don’t.  I mean, they smile for pictures, but if I’m being 100 % honest. There are plenty of times they won’t.  That being said, I do have a few tips and I thought I would share them with you!

1. Ask Questions Get them talking! I haven't met a child, tween, or teen that doesn't like to talk about himself. Ask them questions about their favorite food, activity, song...you name it!  But the most important part is listening. Really hear their answers and respond. You'll be shocked at what you learn;)

2. Laugh. Not them-YOU! If you want them to have fun then YOU have to have fun, too. People reflect the energy they see and kids are no different.

3. Dance to Some Music. Babies love it. Toddlers groove to it.  Teens are so annoyed by it.....but they all laugh. If you really want a giggle then YOU do the dancing! Nothing makes children laugh (and blush) more than watching their dad do the lawn mower in public.

4. Play. By now you know that I'm a sucker for movement. Get moving. Play a game! Movement almost always brings smiles and laughter. Try simon says, red light, green light, acting like an animal, hide and seek.... just get moving!

5. Compliments. Who doesn't like to hear how pretty they are or what an amazing smile they have?? Better yet-show them a photo that you just captured while giving them a compliment. Double win!

Hopefully this gave you a couple new ideas and tricks about capturing those beautiful smiles and amazing personalities. Do you have any additional tricks to getting authentic smiles from your kids? I would love to hear from you, comment below!

Harris Family Mini Session | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, IN

I have to brag on this momma for a bit. Allison is that friend. The friend you can always call when you need to vent. The friend who doesn't judge you when you arrive to school forgetting your shoes but laughs along with you (yes, that did happen). I could go on and on, but so very thankful for her and your friendship.  And really that last statement goes for all 4 in the Harris family.... all amazing people that we are blessed to have as friends.

PS-we had no fun at all during these photos... cough, cough, cough.

Fisher Family Session | Photography by Meg Miller | Ft. Wayne, Indiana

This is one of my favorite sessions to date. These four were an absolute blast to be around!  They were the type of family that really enjoys being around each other. During the middle of the session, Amy yelled out "AHHH I love my family so much!" Gave me chills. Just love it!   Fisher family thank you so for giving me the honor of photographing your beautiful family!

Kent Family | Fall Mini Session | Photography by Meg Miller | Fort Wayne, Indiana

This mini was so special. We lived next to Jared and Sarah and spent so many fun evenings and afternoons together..... While we LOVE our new house and are so thankful to Jared for all of his hard work through our move, we can honestly say that those evenings and afternoons we spent together are still one of the things that we miss the most about our old house. BUT it was so fun to catch up with these 4 and watch them grow. These boys are simply adorable!  Always a joy to spend an afternoon with the Kents.
